Manheim Downtown Development Group: Events

Taste of Manheim - Dinner and A Movie on the Square. Saturday, August 21st starting at 6:00pm taste the scrumptions bites from our local restaurants.  Aproximately at 8:30 pm we will begin our outdoor movie on a screen that is THREE STORIES TALL!!!  2009 was the event debut, and with 600 in attendance and food vendors that were so good (they sold out) this event is back in 2010!  This family fun event will showcase some of Manheim’s best restaurants and their signature dishes!  Bring your appetite and your lawn chair and enjoy an evening on the square!  Check back often for updates on this event.

Cruisin' the Square :  This is our tenth consecutive annual show now scheduled for Saturday, October 16th 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.  Personalized invitations to prior year car show participants, awards by class, 50/50 raffle and a bunch of door prizes, as well as a few grand prize drawings have made this event a regional favorite and draws some awesome cars,  motorcycles, and some very nice people too.  Our exhibitors love parking on our historic square.  Take the link above for a photo gallery from the prior show, a video spotlighting cars shown in 2008 with the 2010 registration form, flyer and map.  Add good weather, music and live entertainment, delicious food from our local vendors and you will have an enjoyable and memorable day.  Last year the event grew to include over 230 vehicles in showing.  A pretty cool juggling act was added in 2008 and they will be returning this year.  Children’s activities this year include snap model car building!  The event is held from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Staged in the center of town, the Square will be closed from 7:00am - 3:00pm.  The event is open to the public and admission is free to non-exhibitors.  Our anchor sponsor is Susquehanna Bank.  Car Show Exhibitors will be welcomed by parking attendants beginning at 8:00am.

Christmas Tree Lighting: Scheduled next for Saturday, December 4, 2009 (always the 1st Saturday following Thanksgiving), at 7:00pm marks its ninth year as a celebrated event in our community. Come out for this real life ‘Whoville’ experience with hot chocolate, caroling, and a community brass band. Event entertainment features local students from our own Crickets School for the Performing Arts sharing dance numbers from the Nutcracker Ballet.  Our anchor sponsor Moove In Self Storage

New Year's Eve: Dancin’ in the Streets will see the return of the large illuminated ball raised on the Square's flagpole at midnight.  The Ball or “Orb” as we call it was locally designed and built and must be seen to be fully appreciated.  A confetti canon in the Orb fires from atop the Flagpole cued by the town clock’s tolling of midnight .  Music provided by DJ Gregg Stief of Dance N Tune Entertainment will literally have you Dancin’ in the Streets or if you prefer, take a trolley ride along the streets of Downtown Manheim.  Utility Keystone Trailer Sales, Inc. and Ephrata National Bank are the sponsors for this event.

Downtown Day:  Saturday, March 27th 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Join us for a day of celebrating the unique character, businesses and beauty of our downtown!  The Lancaster County Downtown Consortium and the Manheim Downtown Development Group are inviting the community to Downtown Day!  This is an effort for residents and visitors to rediscover our downtown and support our local businesses in Manheim, Elizabethtown, Ephrata, Mount Joy and Lititz!

Market on the Square:  Saturday, March 15th starting at 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Celebrate spring and small town life with this community event that converts our lovely square into an open air market for bedding plants, garden treasures and features a free perennial exchange.  Live entertainment from our Middle School Jazz Band, a strolling Baron Stiegel, tricycle races and chalk art all play into a fun and lovely day in Manheim.  Our anchor sponsor is Fulton Bank.
